For Jonathan, technology has always been more than wires, screens, and code. It has been a lifelong companion.

It all started on his sixth birthday, when he unwrapped an IBM Aptiva desktop. While other kids played outside, he was diving into the digital world, exploring how machines worked and dreaming of what they could become. By eighth grade, he was already putting that passion to use, helping his science teacher repair the school’s weather station computer so students could keep tracking the skies.

That early curiosity grew into innovation. In 2010, Jonathan was awarded his first patent for a wheelchair attachment that allowed users to surmount curbs without cutouts. Five years later, his second patent followed, this time for a novel way to reduce merge conflicts in development environments. Both embodied his core philosophy: technology should solve real problems, not create new ones.

Jonathan earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), where his blend of academic rigor and entrepreneurial energy opened new doors. In college, he joined a start-up focused on connecting people with resources to strengthen their communities. He was also selected for IBM’s prestigious Extreme Blue program, where he worked with two groundbreaking teams. One developed a cost-effective High Availability solution for Power Servers. The other built an Eclipse extension that enabled developers to create iOS apps on PCs and Linux, compiling seamlessly through a Mac build server.

All of these experiences, education, innovation, problem-solving, and a drive to make technology accessible, laid the foundation for smartIT, which Jonathan co-founded as a partnership in 2017. From the start, the company experienced explosive growth, helping fast-moving technology start-ups overcome the challenges of scaling. The team supported ambitious young companies with everything from workflow automation, IoT integration, and networking, to IAM, security hardening, customer support escalations, and technical training.

Today, smartIT continues to channel that same spark from a childhood IBM Aptiva. We help organizations harness technology not as a burden, but as a catalyst for growth, clarity, and possibility.
